This was a very special day, not only did I get to enjoy Randolph's Happy Hour, I also helped celebrate the birthday of William Randolph Hearst, the namesake for Randolph’s Restaurant and Bar, with 1¢ Coors Light Drafts.



Randolph's, located inside the Warwick Hotel, is an upscale restaurant and bar. An added benefit is that they offer complimentary valet parking or you can find a free street spot after the surrounding meters stop charging at 6pm. The day I went they had a wine tasting event and a large private party in the restaurant. The vibe was definitely upscale, but relaxed in the bar... this would be a great place to unwind after a long days work. Our group sat in the bar to take advantage of the sweet deals happening that night. Service was a little slow because there was only one bartender with no help, so I can sympathize.

So I tried the wings, calamari, mussels and the crab risotto. My Favorite by far was the calamari. It was REALLY GOOD! Crispy with an excellent aioli sauce drizzled over the top. The wings were ok, but not great. I wish the mussels would have been a little tougher, they were a bit mushy for my taste. The crab risotto was pretty good, but you only get four, so not as good of a value.

Drinks:

I was taking advantage of the one cent Coors Light Drafts, but they did offer some other great beer options on the draft list. They also have a full bar and wine, all of which are half off during happy hour.

Like I said before, this would make a nice little after work spot to unwind. The happy hour goes till 7pm which is always nice if you get off work late. Try the calamari, it's pretty darn good. Be sure to check out their website for events, they have quite a bit going on each month.

Happy Hour at The Hornet: 4-7pm

The Hornet is a nice little restaurant / bar off Broadway. They have a back patio and a two pool tables (although one was out of order). Pretty fun atmosphere and the layout is pretty nice. Their regular menu is made up of mainly sandwiches and a handful of entrees, although I think it's a bit overpriced for what you get ($10 plus on most sandwiches). But, that's why I go during happy hour.

Food:
On the downside The Hornet offers just three tapas options for their happy hour - a little disappointing. Luckily, I like almost everything, so I ordered the Chicken Pesto Pizza and the Crab Cakes. The pizza was not bad... it was about six inches and tasted decent, nothing spectacular. Crab cakes were a pretty similar story, you get two. Now I know The Hornet has good food, because I've eaten there before. So suggest ordering off the regular menu.

Drinks:
They have great options for drinks with lots of good beers on Draft. I was drinking 90 Shilling (See Photo). During happy hour, good drafts typically go for $3.50 or you can get a bottle for $2.50. You can also order a plethora of other drinks at happy hour prices and they usually have daily specials as well.

My recommendation: check out the hornet for lunch or dinner. Their happy hour is just okay, nothing really that stands out. Although I used to frequent their late night happy hour long ago. During late night hh they offer a $5 food menu that used to be awesome. I can't speak for it now, because I think they've changed the menu a bit. The other downside is they shortened the time the offer it, so it doesn't start till 11pm and I believe their kitchen closes at Midnight.

One of the best things about The Lobby is their patio. It's pretty nice, fairly large, and you can still take advantage of the happy hour prices while soaking up some rays. The Lobby is located just a few blocks North of Coors Field, so its a great location and it's fairly easy to find street parking (unless you dine during a Rockies game). The restaurant is perfect for my taste... it's very nice, but not too upscale that you need to worry about how you're dressed. It really has a casual vibe, while still offering a menu to satisfy your inner foodie. To top it off, they offer a great draft beer selection.

Drinks:
Like I said, they have a great beer selection. They even offer those 2.5 Liter towers that are becoming more and more popular around town. I have yet to order one, but I'm told they pump out around six beers. Twenty bucks for six micros is a pretty darn good deal. Being on the patio put me in the mood for a margarita. To be honest their margs are really not that great, average at best, I quickly switched over to beer. I think in the future I'll stick to ordering margaritas at Mexican restaurants.

Food:
In general, the lobby has a pretty nice little menu. Lots of variety, from seafood to burgers. The chef puts a unique touch on many of the food items (check out their stuffed burgers) to give your taste buds a far from typical dining experience. Off the happy hour menu I sampled the Ahi Sliders, Burger Sliders, Calamari and the Chips and Guac. Of everything I tried, I would definitely recommend either of the slider options. You get three large sliders that come with plenty of toppings on a nice roll. The sliders equal up to be about the size of your typical burger or sandwich, so it's a good value for five dollars. Both the beef and the ahi are delicious, go with a friend so you can mix and match! The calamari is just alright, I like my calamari on the crispy side and these came out a bit soggier... but all in all it was pretty good and I'd give them another try. Chips and guac was pretty average, not too exciting. I wasn't a big fan of the chips they used, but they got the job done.

Definitely give this happy hour a try. Take some friends, sit on the patio and enjoy the afternoon with great food and drinks. If you have a lot of friends you can even reserve the downstairs area for an event.

Happy Hour at Panzano

Since Westword just named Panzano Best Happy-Hour Deal - 2010, I had to check out this special. When you walk in you'll find the space is split into two areas; to your left you'll find the restaurant and to the right you'll find the lounge. The happy hour is only in the lounge, so you'll want to snag a seat at one of their high tops or booths. The vibe is pretty classy and upscale. The lounge was pretty hopping, our group ended up getting cozy around one of their small high tops.

Drinks
$3 Drafts, but all great beers... They offer Guinness, Stella Artois, Moretti, Full Sail Amber, and Odell’s 5 Barrel Pale Ale. Not many places offer Guinness for three bucks, so I was immediately impressed. If beer is not your thing, they also offer 4 different wines priced at $4 and a long list of cocktails priced at $5.

Food
Here's where it gets good. They have 16 different Italian small plates priced between $3 and $4. If you like options, then this is your place! They have calamari, pizzas, sliders, pasta, shrimp, prosciutto, duck, lamb... a great variety! First I had the Salsiccia Pizza, which is comprised of Italian sausage, pepperoni, provolone, and pomodoro. The pizzas are about six inches in diameter and absolutely delicious! All the right seasonings and toppings to make for a great pie. If you like pizza they offer six different types on their happy hour menu.

Now a six inch pizza is not gonna fill me up, so next I ordered the Pollo Marsala, which is described as pan seared organic chicken breast dusted with porcini flour served with Hazel Dell mushroom risotto and crisp prosciutto. The thing was beautifully garnished and displayed on the plate. Not only did it look good, it tasted pretty darn good too. The chicken was very tender and seasoned perfectly.

I'll have to say I highly recommend this happy hour if you enjoy the finer things in life without the high price tag. Great beer selection, great food selection, great downtown atmosphere ...all at a great price!
